Light

Cordyline 'Ruby' thrives in bright, indirect light. Never allow your plant to be in direct sunlight, as this exposure can cause your plant leaves to burn. Even though your plant likes bright light, providing your 'Ruby' with partial shade is appreciated. If you decide to grow your plant indoors, select a spot where it can receive the right light requirements (minus direct exposure to sunlight). It is essential to know that the changes in seasons can also affect the amount of sun your plant will need. Rotating your plant can help ensure it is given the correct exposure.

Water

During the growing season, spring and summer, your Cordyline 'Ruby' (generally) will do best when watered once every 7-10 days. Remember that the frequency depends on different factors, such as indoor temperature, humidity, and pot size. You must strive not to overwater your 'Ruby'. Similar to other plants, it can cause the roots to rot. Always water your plant thoroughly and allow all extra water to drain out thoroughly.

Soil

Cordyline' Ruby' prefer well-draining soil that lets extra water flow. Making sure that the soil is not keeping in too much moisture is essential since it can cause various issues, including the roots to rot. Strive for a pH level range between 6.0 and 7.0. Although you are most likely in luck with typical commercial potting mixes, as they usually are made to maintain a balanced pH, you can use a soil testing kit. Make changes if you need to.
You could create your mix by mixing equal parts of peat moss, perlite, and well-draining compost or orchid bark.
Also, remember to replace the soil every few years. This is needed to maintain good drainage in your plant.

Temperature

Thriving in warmer temperatures, Cordyline 'Ruby' prefer temperatures between 60°F (15°C) and 80°F (27°C). It could survive in colder temperatures for a shorter amount of time but does not let in any temperature under 55°F (13°C). It can negatively hurt your plant's health and should be avoided at all costs! Indoors, your plant will do just fine in the typical room temperature that is usually in most homes. This range is from 65°F (18°C) to 75°F (24°C). Do be sure that you keep your plant in a stable temperature environment. Never allow it in extreme, hot, and cold weather. Keeping the temperature consistent benefits your plant's overall health and growth!

Humidity

It is preferred for Cordyline' Ruby' to be surrounded by high humidity levels. Even though Cordyline 'Ruby' can survive in average indoor humidity, high humidity levels are best to help them grow the tallest they can be and is suitable for their health in general. This plant does best in levels between 50% and 70%, as it replicates the humidity conditions of where they originally came from. To "up" the humidity levels near your plant, we suggest you consider grouping your plants, providing a tray with water, using a humidifier, or misting your plants. Your plant will do best if you do not allow it in places with low humidity. Examples are near heating vents, radiators, and air conditioning units. These all tend to make the air dry.

Fertilizer

Be sure to fertilize your Cordyline 'Ruby' every two to four weeks during the growing season. In winter, you can reduce how often you are "feeding" your plant since your plant's growth will begin to be slower during this time of the year. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer specific for indoor plants or tropical foliage plants is encouraged. However, there are organic alternatives that you can fertilize your plant with. Slow-release granular organic fertilizer or compost are also great options (for the organic approach).

Growth Rate

Cordyline' Ruby' is a slower grower. It does have the ability to reach a mature height of around 3 to 6 feet over time. And if you are taking care of your plant really well, it can reach up to 8 feet! However, this could take many years for a Cordyline' Ruby' to grow to its full height. Healthy growth is dependent on the care your plant endures. Be sure to take care of your plant for optimal growth!

Cordyline' Ruby' is not pet-friendly and toxic to pets. Keep your pets away from this plant! Foe!
